ON THE JOB TRAINING

Here at NECA we will help you and place you with electrical contractors, “Host Trainers” to gain practical on-the-job training.
During your apprenticeship, you may get experience with a variety of host employers or stay with one employer, enabling you to gain skills across the full range of your trade. You can feel secure knowing we will look after and support you and you won’t be out of work.

OFF THE JOB TRAINING

All apprentices attend an intensive induction that includes basic electrical testing, elevated work platform training and we help you enrol in your certificate course at TAFE.
While you are learning you are earning as we cover your wages throughout your apprenticeship. We’ll also provide protective clothing and equipment and you will have a dedicated Industry Careers Consultant to mentor you along the way.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BECOME AN APPRENTICE

  • be aged 15 years or over

  • completed at least Year 10

  • a positive attitude

  • an interest in the Electrotechnology Industry as a career

  • an ability to work at heights, in confined spaces and around moving machinery

  • an ability to distinguish between colours

  • a good grasp of English and mathematics

  • good communication

  • good presentation

  • be punctual

THE ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES:

DOMESTIC AND COMMERCIAL

Electrical contractors involved in the domestic and commercial sector are considered to be the heart of the
industry. They carry out their daily duties on multi-storey buildings, shopping centres, apartments and houses.
• installation of main and sub-main switchboards
• power and lighting systems
• emergency and exit lighting
• installation of powerpoints and power supplies to
specialised equipment.

DATA AND COMMUNICATION

This area of the electrical contracting industry is always evolving in phone, optical fibre systems and internet connected
devices.
• Computer cabling design and installations
• Telephone/voice systems design and installations
• Optical fibre communication technology
• Building management systems

INDUSTRIAL AND RENEWABLE ENERGY

Keep business going by helping to install, maintain and repair electrical systems and electronics in factories and warehouses and the growing field in renewable energy systems.
• Installation and testing of main switchboards
• Installation and testing of power outlets and lighting
• Connection of power supply to production
line equipment
• Installation and testing of renewable energy
equipment and systems

ELECTRICAL SUPPLY INDUSTRY – POWERLINES

Aiming high? Working on the transmission of electricity from power stations through high voltage transmission
networks to distribution to homes and business via sub stations could be just what you are looking for.
Or go deep and be a cable jointer looking after the insulated power supply and control cables installed in
under-ground pipes.
